Josh Lamberson was the leader of some prolific offenses during his tenure as a quarterback for the Bearcats and ended his career in the NCAA top 30 all-time for career passing efficiency.
Â
Lamberson found success early in his career but was struck with adversity midway through his junior year after suffering a serious hip injury. All the Wilber, Nebraska native would do is bounce back with one of the best single season performances for a quarterback in school history. That 2005 season was simply remarkable – a school record 324 completions, recorded the 5th best completion percentage in a single season and the 3rd most TD passes in a single season with 33. After a 3 loss regular season, the Bearcats found themselves on the road beginning the 2005 playoffs. Lamberson would lead the Bearcats on a dramatic five game stretch that would catapult the program to a run of 5 straight National Title game appearances. During that playoff run, he would pass for a Division 2 record 1,365 yards and he still holds a championship game record with 33 pass completions in the showdown with number one ranked Grand Valley State.
Â
Lamberson’s accomplishments off the gridiron are just as notable. He is one of six Northwest student-athletes to win the prestigious Ken B. Jones award for the MIAA’s top overall student-athlete. Named a first-team academic all-American in 2004 and then again in 2005, when he was also selected as the ESPN the Magazine and CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year. Â
