Greg Teale made the short trip across town from Maryville High School to the campus of Northwest Missouri State to begin his career as a college quarterback. Early on, the wins did not come easy for Teale and his teammates. They suffered several bumps and bruises in the beginning and endured an 0-11 season in 1994, but by the time his college career was complete the Bearcats were established as a force in Division II football.
Â
During his senior season, Teale would capture All-MIAA accolades on his way to leading the Bearcats to their first 11-win season in program history and a share of the MIAA title. In addition, his list of personal achievements is quite extensive. He ranks sixth all-time in career completions and touchdowns, and holds the school record with 5 TD passes in one game. He is also ranked in the top ten in career passing yards, touchdown passes in a season and total offense.
Â
In his senior campaign, Teale guided the Bearcats to the Division II playoffs for just the third time in school history. The Bearcats carried an 0-2 all-time record in to postseason play as they faced Nebraska-Omaha in November of 1996. A back and forth game would be decided on the final play as Teale connected with Jesse Haynes on a 17-yard pass as time expired to give the Bearcats a dramatic 22-21 victory. They would go on to lose a 1-point heartbreaker the following week to the eventual National Champion Northern Colorado Bears, but this playoff run by the Bearcats helped establish them as postseason regulars.
Â
He was selected to multiple Academic All-MIAA teams and received an NCAA post graduate scholarship upon completion of his career.
Â
Greg currently lives in Raymore, Missouri.
