Bearcats sweep opening races at home meet

Story Highlights
- The Northwest Missouri State cross country teams won the men's and women's team competitions in the season opening meet of the year.
- The meet, at Maryville Country Club, had five teams on the men's side and four on the women's side.
- Anne Herbert won the women's race while Wick Cunningham was the men's top finisher, placing third.

Men's Race Highlights (Northwest wins with 27 points)
- Wick Cunningham placed third (26:48.6) and Ryan Cox was fourth in 27:00.0.
- The Bearcats had four in the top-nine finishers as Tim Grundmayer was seventh (27:18.2) and Johnny Harley was ninth (27:27.0)
- St. Mary's University placed second overall with 30 total points.
- Drew Keefer won the 8-kilometer race in 26:00.5. Nolan Zimmer was second in 26:30.7. Both were running the race unattached.

Women's Race Highlights (Northwest wins with 24 points)
- Anne Herbert won the 6-kilometer race in 23:04.3.
- Northwest had five runners in the top-11 placers.
- Samantha Laurenzo was third in 24:05.8. Jessica Johnson was fifth (24:29.8) and Brooklyn Ellis was eigth (24:57.1). Katie Bush ran 25:11.5 to place 11th overall.
- St. Mary's University was second in the team standings with 51 points, placing three in the top-nine.
- Obsie Birru was second overall in 23:46.2 running unattached.

Up Next
- Northwest is idle next weekend and will return to action on Sat., Sept. 20, at the Woody Greeno Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
