ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The No. 24-ranked Missouri Western Griffons completed a 3-0 sweep of the Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team Saturday afternoon at the MWSU Fieldhouse.
MWSU won by set scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-18. It is only the third 3-0 loss this season by the Bearcats and first since Sept. 6. MWSU is 18-4 overall and 8-2 in MIAA play. Northwest is 12-8 overall and 6-4 in league action. The Griffons won their sixth straight match, while the Bearcats saw their three-game win streak snapped. It was the first loss for the Bearcats at MWSU Fieldhouse since the 2017 season.
The Griffons hit .230 with 41 kills and 13 attack errors. Northwest hit .103 with 39 kills and 25 attack errors.
Northwest had only one set of 50% or better sideout effort in the match. Northwest had a 48% (12-of-25) sideout performance in the first set. Northwest was able to side out at 54% (13-of-24) in the second set. Northwest was only able to side out at 40% (10-of-25) in the third.
Kasidy Mohwinkle secured a team-best 11 kills and hit .400 on 25 swings.
Kyah Luhring posted a team-high 18 digs on the defensive side of the net.
Ella Caffery secured 33 assists and nine digs.
Northwest will return to action next week with road matches at Washburn (Tuesday, 6 p.m.) and at Emporia State (Wednesday, 6 p.m.).
