Bearcat track & field puts up elite performances in California including school-record breaking effort from Reece Smith

The Northwest Missouri State University track & field teams put on some elite performances including Reece Smith's school-record breaking effort in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in California.
 
MT SAC
Reece Smith eclipsed the Northwest school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:39.09 at the Mt. SAC Relays. Smith's mark pushed him past the old school record of 8:42.84 set by Jim Ryan in the 1983 outdoor track and field season. It is the second-fastest time by an NCAA Division II men's runner this season.
 
Smith's time was only bettered by BYU's Kenneth Rooks (8:32.75) and Montana State's Levi Taylor (8:38.90).
 
 
AZUSA
Sophomore Anna Gladstone (Grant City, Mo.) scored a personal-best 4,601 points in the women's heptathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Gladstone's previous best in the heptathlon was 4,238 points. Her point total of 4,601 points earned her an NCAA Division II provisional qualification.
 
Gladstone posted another personal-best in the 800m run to cap the heptathlon. Gladstone ran a time of 2:28.69 – bettering her previous mark of 2:35.07. Gladstone tallied 709 event points in the 800m.
 
Bailey Blake ran a time of 2:10.53 – missing her personal-best time by .14 – in the women's 800m run. It is Blake's best outdoor time of her collegiate career in the 800m.
 
 
LOS ANGELES
The Northwest men's and women's 4x100 relay squads each took first place with blazing times in each event at the Cal State LA Twilight Open.
 
The men's 4x100 relay team of Enrico Cavagna, Joel Dos Santos, Prince Griffin and Marcus Klein tallied a time of 40.89 – the second-fastest time in program history. The men earned an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time with their performance.
 
The women's 4x100 relay squad of Ally Hammond, Lexie Gilbert, Chloe Saenz and Kyah Luhring recorded a clocking of 47.19. It is the ninth-best time in school history.
 
Joel Dos Santos placed second in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.21m (23'7¾").
 
Sarah Prickett was crowned the women's champion in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.14. Prickett's time is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and ranks as the second-best outdoor time in Bearcat women's history. Teammate Ally Hammond placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a clocking of 14.50.
 
Randi Overkamp placed fourth overall in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.58m (18'3½")
 
Lexie Gilbert took fifth overall in the women's 100-meter dash. Gilbert was clocked at a personal-best time of 12.23 in the race. Gilbert's previous best came at the Wichita State Open (April 10, 2021) with a time of 12.47.
