Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 2 Bearcats take down Tigers on road, 74-60

HAYS, Kan. - The No. 2-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball shook off some rust and rattled off a 74-60 road win over the Fort Hays State Tigers at Gross Coliseum.

Northwest (14-1 overall, 7-0 MIAA) moved its overall win streak to 12 straight games. It also marked Northwest's 23rd consecutive MIAA victory and 22nd straight overall road win. Northwest has been victorious in 21 straight MIAA road contests.

Northwest built a 17-point second-half cushion before having to hold off Fort Hays State for the 10-point win. It marks Northwest's seventh double-digit win this season in MIAA play.

The Bearcats held a 51-34 lead with 16:30 to play in the game. But the Bearcats went scoreless for a seven minute stretch that allowed FHSU to climb to within four points at 51-47. However, a quick 7-0 spurt allowed Northwest to push the lead back to double figures.

Wes Dreamer led the way with his fifth career double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Trevor Hudgins had a rare off night from the field by making only 6-of-17 field goals, including just 1-of-10 from three-point range. However, Hudgins tallied 19 points and dished out four assists. Daniel Abreu reached double-figure scoring with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

Hudgins set the MIAA record for consecutive free throws by making all six of his free throws to give him 41 consecutive free throw makes.

Northwest will return to action Saturday at home against Nebraska-Kearney. Tip is set for 3:30 p.m. at Bearcat Arena in Maryville, Mo.

NOTES: Northwest has won 12 straight games in the series ... Northwest is 111-4 over the past four seasons ... Northwest is 173-9 over the last six seasons ... Northwest is 149-16 in MIAA games over the last six seasons.
