MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 2-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's basketball moved its overall winning streak to 13 in a row with an 80-65 triumph over the visiting University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers in Bearcat Arena.
Northwest (15-1 overall, 8-0 MIAA) got a game-high 31 points from junior guard
Trevor Hudgins. Hudgins flirted with a triple double as he grabbed six rebounds and handed out a game-high six assists. Hudgins knocked in 11-of-19 shots from the floor. He missed his final free throw of the game in the final seconds to snap his MIAA-record consecutive free throw mark at 48 in a row. Hudgins also played 40 minutes for the 38th time in his career.
Junior guard
Diego Bernard returned to the floor after missing Wednesday's game at Fort Hays State with an illness. Bernard looked like he didn't miss a beat as he tallied 18 points, four steals, three rebounds and a blocked shot. Bernard went 7-of-10 from the field.
Redshirt freshman
Daniel Abreu secured his fifth double-figure scoring game of the season with 11 points off the bench. Abreu grabbed six rebounds, including four on the offensive end of the floor, to go along with two steals and a blocked shot. When Abreu was on the floor, Northwest enjoyed a +24 scoring advantage.
Sophomore
Wes Dreamer notched his third straight double-figure scoring contest with 10 points and four rebounds.Â
Northwest shot 50% or better for the 10th straight game and 12th time this season. Northwest hit on 58.8% of its shots (30-of-51 FGs). UNK shot 56.1% from the floor (23-of-41 FGs).
The Bearcats will return to action Monday at Washburn. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. at Lee Arena in Topeka, Kan.
