A tight match with two overtime periods resulted in a 2-2 tied between Northwest Missouri State and Central Missouri to open up MIAA play. The Bearcats moved to 4-3-1 on the season and start with a 0-0-1 conference record. This is the fourth time the two foes have tied and the first tie since October 1, 2009.Â
Northwest started the first half strong, taking six shots while recording four on target. In the 33rd minute,
Teagan Blackburn scored the first goal of the game from
Yesenia Arnau and
Madi McKeever. The Bearcats maintained control to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.Â
The back and forth match continued into the second half until the Jennies netted their first goal at 67:29 and then found another goal at 74:00 to take a 2-1 lead. With time running down,
Adell Gore netted the equalizer in the 80th minute that would eventually send the game into overtime.Â
After two scoreless 10-minute overtime periods, the match resulted in a 2-2 tie. The Bearcats recorded 16 total shots with nine on goal while Central Missouri tallied 24 shots with 13 on target. Northwest keeper
Alexis Serna Castillo played all 110 minutes of action and made 11 saves in goal.Â
Northwest hosts another round of MIAA action next weekend as the Bearcats take on Washburn on Friday and Emporia State on Sunday.Â
