Four goals from four different Bearcats helped Northwest Missouri State to a 4-1 win over Missouri Southern in regional soccer action at Bearcat Pitch. Northwest improved to 4-3 on the season heading into conference play on Sunday against Central Missouri.Â
The Bearcat offense pushed the pace early, recording five shots in the first seven minutes, three of them from forward
Kaylie Rock. Northwest forward
Alex Mausbach finally connected for the Bearcats from
Sophie Cissell and
Kaylie Rock to score the first goal of the game. Missouri Southern would counter with a goal to even the game at 40:40, but with 12 seconds left in the half,
Linsi Mashburn found
Teagan Blackburn off a corner kick to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.Â
The Northwest offense started slow in the second half, trading possessions with Missouri Southern until Rock netted a goal of her own at 57:02 and gave the Bearcats extra cushion for the rest of the match. Cissell assisted Mashburn with seven seconds left to lift the Bearcats, 4-1, over the Lions.Â
Rock led the Bearcats by taking seven of the 21 total shots and tallying five on target. Mashburn and Cissell each had two shots on goal and Cissell led Northwest with two assists.
Grace Goetsch and
Ashley Williams split the match in goal, each recording three saves in the win.Â
