Blackburn's goal with :07 left lifts Northwest over No. 13 Missouri Western

Northwest Missouri State's Teagan Blackburn scored a game-winning goal with seven seconds left to lift the Bearcats over No. 13 Missouri Western in regional soccer action. The Bearcats improved to 3-3 on the season with their first win over a top-25 team since October 31, 2014, when the Bearcats knocked off No. 9 Central Missouri in a 1-0 victory.

Northwest got on the board early in the game with Adell Gore's goal from Madi McKeever at 12:59. The Bearcats kept the 1-0 lead heading into halftime until the Griffons netted a goal of their own at 53:51 to even the game. The two rivals battled it out down to the last seconds of the game until Sophie Cissell broke away down the left side of the field and pushed the ball toward the Griffons' goal when she found Blackburn evading her defender up the middle. Blackburn took the ball at the goal and found the back of the net to give the Bearcats the 2-1 lead with little time for the Griffons to counter.

The match was close in nearly every statistical category, the Griffons recorded 13 total shots with six on goal while the Bearcats took 14 shots with seven on goal. Bearcat keeper Grace Goetsch recorded five saves in the victory in 90 minutes of play.

The Bearcats take on Missouri Southern on Friday, September 24 in Maryville before opening MIAA play on Sunday, September 26 against Central Missouri.
