The Northwest Missouri State University men's cross country team came in ranked No. 7 this week. According to USTFCCCA records, this marks the first time in program history that Northwest has been ranked in the top ten of the
United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25. Northwest is the highest ranked team that began the season unranked. The only other team that was unranked at the beginning of the year in the top 10 is Alabama-Huntsville, at number 10.
The Bearcats produced four first-team all-region performers in
Jhordan Ccope,
Karim Achengli,
Mike Lagat, and
Augostine Lisoreng at the NCAA Central Region Championship meet. Ccope placed second, Lisoreng sixth, Achengli ninth and Lagat placed 18th as the Bearcats placed second as a team at the NCAA Central Region Championship in Joplin, Missouri. That second place finish qualified them as a team for the NCAA National Championship.
The team will travel to Sacramento, Calif. for the NCAA National Championships, on November 23.
