Box Score 2 ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State baseball team won two MIAA games on Friday against Missouri Western at Griffon Baseball Field in St. Joseph, Mo. The Bearcats won the first game 7-4 and scored a walk-off 7-6 victory in the nightcap. The games were originally scheduled for to be played in Maryville but were moved due to field conditions.
Game OneAfter falling behind in the top of the first, 1-0, Northwest would score the next seven runs before allowing three in the top of the ninth. In the second,
Austin Wulff doubled and after advancing to third on a
Jon Pomatto single, stole home. Pomatto ended up scoring two batters later as he stole home on a double steal.
In the fourth,
Eric McGlauflin singled to start the inning and went to third on a Steve Garber single. After Pomatto walked,
Derek Meyer grounded out, scoring McGlauflin.
Garrett Fort tripled, bringing in Pomatto and Garber. Northwest added two more runs in the fifth as Pomatto singled in McGlauflin and Garber scored on a wild pitch.
Ryker Fox went 5.0 innings for Northwest to pick up his second win of the season. He allowed just one run on four hits, striking out three.
Rob Henrichs and
Blane Reutter finished the final two innings. McGlauflin went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs. Pomatto finished with two hits and a pair of runs. Garber scored twice, going 1-for-3.
Game TwoNorthwest jumped out to a 6-0 lead but saw MWSU battle back to tie the game in the top of the ninth, 6-6. In the bottom of the ninth, Fort singled to start the inning and moved to second on an error.
Paul Johnson grounded out, pushing Fort to third. Two batters later, Wulff singled to drive in Fort with the winning run.
For the Bearcats, Wulff, Garber and Pomatto each had two hits. Garber and
Blake Hardegree drove in a pair of runs to lead Northwest. Pearcy Hondo started and pitched 5.1 innings, giving up four runs on five hits.
Daulton Perry came in relief, going 1.2 innings.
Brian Schmiedt pitched the eighth and ninth innings to pick up the win.
