MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw Thursday against the visiting Maryville University Saints.
Northwest is 0-2-1 on the year, while Maryville is also 0-2-1.
Northwest opened the scoring at 15:58 when
Lillie Shaw scored after having an earlier shot saved.
Taryn Lewis kept the Saints off the board early with a save on Hailey Scheuer in the fifth minute, and Northwest followed its goal with pressure that included a
Julia Coacher shot, two corner kicks in a 39-second span and an
Addy Armstrong shot saved in the 28th minute. The Saints answered at 32:03 on Kelsey Wentland's goal to make it 1-1. Northwest Mo. St. finished the half with a 6-3 shot advantage and the only two corner kicks, with
Mackenzie Jordan adding the final shot for the home side before the match went to halftime tied 1-1.
Northwest kept the match level through a scoreless second half, with
Leyah Scott making six saves as the Saints put repeated shots on frame. Earlier, Northwest generated chances quickly after the break, with
Rachel Davis shooting in the 46th minute before Armstrong and Shaw forced saves from Agnes Vilen by the 57th. The Saints answered with pressure through the middle of the half, but Scott stopped attempts in the 50th and 64th minutes as Northwest Mo. St. held the 1-1 score. After the Saints added two corners in the 76th and 77th minutes, Northwest earned a corner of its own at 77:05 and later got a shot from
Sadie Lilienthal in the 82nd. Scott added saves in the 83rd, 87th and 90th minutes, helping Northwest finish the half without conceding as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Shaw scored an unassisted goal and finished with three shots, all on goal. Scott recorded six saves in 45 minutes without allowing a goal. Armstrong put both of her shot attempts on goal.
