MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to propel the home squad to a 2-0 exhibition victory over the Truman State Bulldogs at the Bearcat Pitch.
Northwest's
Julia Coacher broke a 0-0 tie nearly 11 minutes into the second half when she found the back of the net. Coacher's goal came with an assist from
Makenna West to give Northwest a 1-0 advantage.
The Bearcats added their second goal of the match when
Jenna Lloyd spun in a shot off passes from
Ximena Arnau and
Norah Oyler. Lloyd's goal came with 27:58 left in the match and provided a 2-0 margin.
Northwest's offense peppered Truman State with 21 shots, including 11 on-goal.
Addy Armstrong led Northwest with five shots. Coaches, Oyler and
Lydia McVey each contributed three shots.
Northwest's goalkeepers
Taryn Lewis and
Leyah Scott provided a clean sheet with one total save. Truman State was limited to three total shots in the scrimmage.
The Bearcats will have two more exhibition matches before starting the regular season. Northwest will travel to Mankato, Minn., for a Wednesday exhibition against Minnesota State at 1 p.m. The Bearcats will have one more home exhibition match Saturday, Aug. 22, at 11:30 a.m. vs. William Jewell. Northwest's regular season opener is set for Friday, Aug. 28, at Northern State at 12 p.m.
