ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The No. 41-ranked University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos scored a narrow 4-3 dual win over the No. 34-ranked Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats women's tennis team Sunday afternoon at the Genesis indoor courts.
The Bronchos handed the Bearcats their first MIAA loss of the season. UCO improved to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the MIAA. Northwest is 14-3 overall and 5-1 in league dual action.
The Bronchos prevailed in all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.Â
UCO's nationally-ranked singles' players in No. 22 Mei Hasegawa and No. 60 Pete Komada gave UCO a 3-0 lead in the dual.Â
Northwest's
Chiharu Ito put the Bearcats on the board with a three-set triumph at No. 3 singles. Ito prevailed over UCO's Anika Ouwejan 6-0, 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-4).
UCO's Karyna Yurchenko clinched the dual win with a three-set victory at No. 4 singles over Northwest's
Laura Prieto Sieiro. Yurchenko scored the win 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.
Northwest's
Polina Gontaryk (No. 5 singles) and
Polina Agapitova (No. 6 singles) tallied victories to pull the Bearcats to within 4-3 in the dual.
Gontaryk collected her 13th straight singles' win with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) triumph over UCO's Hui Soo. Gontaryk is 14-3 on the season.
