DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake University Bulldogs escaped with a 5-2 dual victory over the No. 50-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs won their 14th straight dual to move to 14-2, but nothing came easy as the Bearcats pushed their NCAA Division I opponent to a back-and-forth affair.
Northwest captured the doubles' point with a pair of tiebreaker victories. The Northwest No. 2 doubles' team of
Bernardo Henriques and
Jules Subra withstood the Drake duo of Alex Yeager and Arin Menon, 7-6 (8-6). Northwest's No. 3 pairing of
Pavlo Vysotin and
Gage Foltz got past Drake's Adan Tarquino and Max Goldemberg, 7-6 (13-11).
Vysotin improved to 2-0 on the day when he secured a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles against Drake's Alan Gonzalez.
The Bearcats battled valiantly at No. 4 singles before
Bernardo Henriques fell to Drake's Sam Melaga, 6-2, 7-5.
Jules Subra also had a nip-and-tuck match with Drake's Arin Menon at No. 6 singles. Memon prevailed, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
