Softball gloves two wins at Alvy Early Classic

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Northwest Missouri State University softball team recorded victories Saturday over Southwest Baptist and Truman State at the Alvy Early Classic.
 
Northwest (5-4 overall) picked up a 2-1 win over Southwest Baptist behind an 11-strikeout performance from starting pitcher Jadyn Streigle.
 
Northwest delivered a resounding 10-2, five-inning triumph over Truman State as senior Omara Love launched a pair of homers to bolster the offensive effort.
 
NORTHWEST 2, SOUTHWEST BAPTIST 1
Starting pitcher Jadyn Streigle delivered a strong performance, striking out a career-high 11 and allowing only three hits over seven innings in the 2-1 win against Southwest Baptist.
 
Northwest opened the game with a strong first inning against Southwest Baptist. Omara Love tripled, setting the stage for Kaylee Cords' single that brought Love home. Alexis Brown and Emma Hague contributed with a single and an RBI, respectively, giving Northwest Missouri State a 2–0 lead after the first inning.
 
The second inning saw both teams held scoreless due to strong defensive plays. Curstin Todd reached base on a walk and Malia Cuevas struck out, but the Bearcats added no runs.
 
In the third inning, Love reached first on an error and stole second, but the Bearcats could not capitalize further. SBU's opportunity to score was thwarted by a strikeout and a pop-up, maintaining Northwest Missouri State's 2–0 advantage.
 
SBU managed to get on the board in the fifth inning when a wild pitch allowed J. Bennett to advance and later score. Despite this, the Bearcats held on to a 2–1 lead.
 
In the final innings, both teams were unable to add to their scores. Streigle's pitching performance was instrumental; she went the distance for her 35th career complete game. Streigle also collected her 35th collegiate pitching win.
 
Streigle delivered a complete game performance for Northwest Missouri State, allowing just one earned run. Streigle struck out 11 batters while yielding only three hits and one walk, maintaining a WHIP of 0.57. The right-hander faced 25 batters, inducing eight groundouts and two flyouts. This outing marked Streigle's second win of the season, improving her record to 2-1.
 
Love recorded a triple, scored a run, drew a walk and stole a base. Cords added an RBI single and scored one run, contributing to the team's offense. Hague drove in a run with a hit and successfully executed a sacrifice bunt.
 
NORTHWEST 10, TRUMAN STATE 2 (5 INN.)
A seven-run fifth inning guided Northwest to a 10-2, five-inning win over the Truman State University Bulldogs.
 
Senior Omara Love connected on a pair of homers, her first multi-home run game of her collegiate career, to lead the Bearcats to the win. Northwest is 5-4 on the season, while Truman State is 1-3.
 
Truman took an early lead in the first inning as C. Smith scored on an RBI groundout by E. Wood. Northwest Missouri State's Alexis Brown and Mackenzie Mlnarik recorded hits in the first three innings, but the team did not score, trailing 2-0 after the second. The third inning marked a turning point for Northwest Missouri State when Omara Love hit a three-run home run, driving in Brown and Mlnarik, and giving the team a 3-2 lead.
 
In the fourth inning, pitcher Rien Moore took the mound for Northwest Missouri State and retired the Bulldogs in order, maintaining the one-run lead. The fifth inning saw Northwest Missouri State break the game open with a seven-run outburst. Love homered again, adding another RBI. Timber Wilson doubled, followed by a single from Emma Hague. Consecutive errors by Truman allowed runs to pile up, with Malia Cuevas, Hague, Sara Farlow, and Wilson all scoring unearned runs. The inning ended with Northwest Missouri State leading 10-2.
 
Moore and the defense held TSU scoreless through the fifth inning, securing a decisive 10-2 victory for Northwest Missouri State.
 
Olivia Moyer pitched 3 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 3 batters and issuing no walks. Moyer threw 54 pitches with 42 strikes, achieving a WHIP of 1.00. Riahn Moore entered in relief, pitching 2 innings without giving up a hit, recording 1 strikeout, and securing a save. Moore faced 6 batters and threw 18 pitches with 11 strikes, maintaining an immaculate WHIP of 0.00.
 
Love led the team with an impressive performance, recording three hits, including two home runs, and driving in four runs while also scoring twice. Hague contributed with a solid game, scoring one run, collecting a hit, earning a walk, and successfully stealing two bases. Mlnarik added a hit and a double, contributing to the offensive efforts with one run scored. Wilson came in as a substitute, hitting a double and scoring a run in his appearance.
 
Northwest Missouri State will face Truman State again next Friday at the D-II Battle & Juco Jam in Branson, Mo. First pitch is slated for 9:30 a.m.
