‘Cats rally for 9-7 victory over ThunderWolves

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team scored eight runs in the final two innings to rally for a 9-7 victory over the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves Sunday in the third of a four-game series.

Northwest (7-4 overall) trailed 7-1 in the eighth. The Bearcats scored five runs in the eighth inning and then added three runs in the ninth. All three runs in the ninth came with two outs. Jordi Ventura delivered singles in both innings.

In the eighth, Ventura singled to center with runners on first and second, but the ball got past Pueblo centerfielder Jake Hixenbaugh, allowing all three runs to score and cutting the lead to 7-6.

Ventura singled with two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth to give Northwest an 8-7 lead. Chester Brooks followed with an RBI single, his third hit of the game, to give Northwest a two-run cushion.

Diego De Santiago worked a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.

Bronco Whitt tossed three scoreless innings to keep the Bearcats in the game and earned the win.

The final game of the four-game set will be played Monday at 1 p.m. (CT).
