Northwest baseball evens series at CSU-Pueblo with 8-7 triumph

PUEBLO, Colo. — The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team scored the winning run in the top of the ninth to edge Colorado State University-Pueblo 8-7, evening the four-game series after two contests.

Northwest (6-4 overall) had a 7-2 lead after scoring four runs in the top of the fourth. CSU-Pueblo (5-1) rallied to tie the game at 7-7, but Michael Good delivered a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth to score Jeremiah Cabuyaban for the one-run victory.

Cabuyaban went 4-for-4 with three RBI and Frank Gall collected two hits and drove in four runs to lead the Bearcat offense.

Northwest scored all seven of its runs in the third and fourth innings. In the third inning, Sam Dinkelman doubled to left center and Gall followed with a two-run home run to right field, putting NW Missouri State on the board. Jeremiah Cabuyaban added an RBI single, bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of Northwest after the third.

The fourth inning saw Northwest extend its lead, as Clement Carrasquero singled and Michael Good was hit by a pitch. Gall delivered a two-RBI single to left center, and Cabuyaban doubled to left center, driving in two more runs. This offensive burst gave Northwest a commanding 7-4 lead after the fourth inning.

The ThunderWolves responded with runs in the sixth and seventh innings, closing the gap. However, Northwest added an insurance run in the ninth inning when Good's RBI single brought Chester Brooks home, solidifying their lead.

Gage Busby started the game for NW Missouri State, pitching 3 innings and allowing 4 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 1 strikeout. Noah Williams followed with a solid inning, giving up 2 hits but keeping Pueblo off the scoreboard, while also recording 2 assists in the field. Jayme Fritts contributed 1 2/3 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and striking out one batter. Jase Johnson pitched 2 innings, yielding 2 runs on 4 hits and hitting a batter. Diego De Santiago closed out the game with 1 1/3 scoreless innings, surrendering 2 hits and striking out 1 batter, earning the win for the Bearcats.

Gall made a significant impact by scoring two runs and recording four RBIs, including a home run. Jeremiah Cabuyaban collected four hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs. Good contributed both offensively and defensively, scoring one run and making four assists in the field. Clement Carrasquero effectively controlled the game from behind the plate, throwing out two would-be base stealers.

In their next game, NW Missouri State will visit the ThunderWolves at 2 p.m. CT Sunday, Feb. 15 in Pueblo, Colorado.
