Oklahoma Baptist downs Northwest in softball, 8-3

MANSFIELD, Texas — Oklahoma Baptist University downed the Northwest Missouri State University softball team, 8-3, at the Lone Star D2 Classic.

Northwest Missouri State managed six hits and drew eight walks but left 11 runners on base, while Oklahoma Baptist capitalized on 10 hits, including a home run, to secure the win.

Northwest Missouri State faced Oklahoma Baptist in a challenging matchup. The game began with a strong defensive stand by Northwest Missouri State, as Oklahoma Baptist was retired in order in the first inning. However, the Bison took an early lead in the second inning with a three-run homer by Haley Hacker, putting them ahead 3-0. In the bottom of the third, Northwest Missouri State responded with Alexis Brown's RBI single, followed by a run scored on a throwing error, narrowing the gap to 3-2.

The fourth inning saw OBU extend their lead with two more runs, making the score 5-2. Northwest Missouri State added another run in the fifth inning when Mackenzie Mlnarik scored on Timber Wilson's groundout, bringing the score to 5-3. Despite a strong effort, including a few hits in the sixth inning, Northwest Missouri State couldn't close the gap further.

The Bison added a run in the sixth inning, making it 8-3, and held off Northwest Missouri State in the final inning to secure the victory. The game concluded with an 8-3 win for OBU.

Erika Gore pitched 3 innings as the starter, allowing 6 hits and 5 runs, with 4 earned runs, while striking out 3 batters and issuing no walks. She threw 79 pitches, 51 of which were strikes, and faced 18 batters, allowing a home run and a wild pitch.
