MANSFIELD, Texas — On a chilly afternoon at the Lone Star D2 Classic, Minnesota-Duluth gained a 6-4 triumph over the Northwest Missouri State University softball team.
Northwest Mo. St. managed eight hits, with
Sara Farlow contributing a home run, but Minn. Duluth's two home runs proved decisive in the outcome. Duluth's last homer came with two outs in the seventh to push the lead to four runs.
The second inning saw Minnesota Duluth take an early lead with a two-run homer by Khendal Johnson, putting them up 2-0. Northwest Missouri State responded in the third inning with
Sara Farlow hitting a solo home run to left field, narrowing the gap to 3-1 after Minnesota Duluth tacked on another run earlier that inning.
In the fifth inning,
Mackenzie Mlnarik singled to center, driving in a run and bringing the score to 4-2, keeping the Bearcats within striking distance. However, Minnesota Duluth added two more runs in the seventh inning with a home run by Taylor Dawyduk, extending their lead to 6-2. Northwest showed resilience in the bottom of the seventh. Love's sacrifice fly and aggressive base running resulted in two runs, concluding the game with a 6-4 victory for Minnesota Duluth.
Olivia Moyer pitched 3.0 innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on one hit, while striking out six batters and walking three. Moyer faced 13 batters and threw 62 pitches, with 31 strikes, registering two wild pitches.
Jadyn Streigle started the game, going 4.0 innings, yielding four earned runs on four hits, including one home run, with one walk and four strikeouts over 61 pitches, 37 of which were strikes. Streigle's performance saw her facing 20 batters, and she issued one wild pitch and one hit by pitch.
Farlow recorded a home run, the third of her Bearcat career and first since the 2024 season, and collected two hits along with an RBI in her three plate appearances. Moyer struck out six batters in her three innings of relief, allowing just one hit. Mlnarik contributed with two hits and one RBI while advancing six runners.
Curstin Todd added a double and scored a run in her three at-bats.
Northwest Mo. St. holds an overall record of 2-2. Minn. Duluth has an overall record of 2-1.
In their next game, the Bearcats will face Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m. in Mansfield, Texas.
