HAYS, Kan. - The Rockhurst University Hawks toppled the Northwest Missouri State University volleyball team, 3-0, at the FHSU Tiger Invitational.

Rockhurst won by set scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-23. Rockhurst improved to 2-0, while Northwest evened its mark at 1-1 on the season.

Northwest looked to be in control in the opening set by taking a 16-11 lead. However, Rockhurst ran off five straight points to level the set at 16-16. Following an 18-18 tie, Rockhurst closed the set on a 6-1 run to score a 25-19 victory.

Rockhurst won the first four points of the second set en route to a 25-14 victory. Northwest dug itself into a 15-5 deficit and could not overcome it. Northwest hit minus-.059 in the second set with 10 attack errors. Rockhurst hit .259 with nine kills and only two attack errors.

The Hawks were able to hold on for a 25-23 win in the third set. The third set featured 11 ties and five lead changes. Northwest held a 19-15 lead but could not hang on as Rockhurst charged back to even the set at 20-20.
Kate Frakes pounded out seven kills in the third set but it was not enough to keep the match alive.

Abby Bulthuis tied for team-high honors with nine kills.
Ella Caffery dished out 32 assists.
Karsen VanScoy tallied a team-best 16 digs.

Northwest will wrap up play at the FHSU Tiger Invitational Saturday at 9 a.m. when the Bearcats match up against Cameron.
