MARYVILLE, Mo. - The McKendree University Bearcats toppled the No. 45-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team on Sunday afternoon on the Grube Courts at the Rosewell Tennis Complex.
Northwest suffered only its second loss in its last eight dual matches and fell to 9-7 on the season.Â
McKendree was able to gain an early edge in doubles by securing a 7-6 (9-7) tiebreak victory at No. 3 doubles. Northwest's pairing of
Rafal Bednarczuk and
Vini Rodrigues were edged out by McKendree's Bendix Schroeder and Giacomo Valerga at No. 3 doubles for the deciding point.
Northwest's No. 21-ranked Domink Wijntjes won his eighth straight singles match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over No. 63-ranked Seb Holden at No. 1 singles.
Northwest's No. 75-ranked Antonin Lebourne gained a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over McKendree's Luka Kalencic at No. 4 singles.
Rodrigues gained Northwest's third singles win of the day at No. 5 singles with a three-set win over McKendree's Valerga, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 6-2.
