MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 45-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team came back from a 3-1 deficit to score a 4-3 dual win Thursday over the visiting Ouachita Baptist University Tigers on the Grube Courts at the Rosewell Tennis Complex.
Northwest moved its season mark to 9-6 overall as the Bearcats won for the sixth time in seven dual matches. Northwest is 5-1 against GAC/MIAA opponents. Ouachita Baptist dropped to 9-8 overall and 2-1 in GAC/MIAA duals.
Ouachita Baptist took a 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles competition. Northwest's No. 1 pairing of
Luc Mascitti and
Louis Lieberz pushed the nation's No. 5-ranked team in Phil Exner and Ramon Strassmann to a 7-5 result.
Northwest faced a 3-1 deficit after No. 21-ranked
Dominik Wijntjes put up a 6-4, 7-5 win over OBU's No. 62-ranked Strassmann at No. 2 singles. It was Wijntjes's seventh straight dual win to improve to 15-3 on the season.
The Bearcats strung together victories from Mascitti at No. 3 singles, No. 75-ranked
Antonin Leborne at No. 4 singles and
Vini Rodrigues at No. 5 singles.
Mascitti went three sets with OBU's Elias Lagger but prevailed, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Leborne came through with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over OBU's Moritz Buss.
Rodrigues also pulled out a three-set win over OBU's Tinus Mueller by the count of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
The Bearcats will be back in action at home Sunday at 1 p.m. against McKendree.
