WICHITA, Kan. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team recorded a 4-3 MIAA dual win at Newman Saturday.
Northwest is 9-7 overall and 4-1 in MIAA dual matches. Newman is 4-11 overall and 0-3 in league duals.
Northwest captured the doubles point by scoring wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Northwest's top doubles duo of
Marielena Muench and
Camilla Franzin scored a 7-5 victory. Northwest's No. 2 doubles team of
Alva Norberg and Miru Nonoka gained a 6-2 victory.
No. 49-ranked Norberg was pushed to a third set but she prevailed at No. 2 singles over Newman's Ani Zeikidze, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-2. Norberg moved her season mark to a team-best 14-5 overall. She is 12-4 in singles action this spring. Norberg is 4-1 in MIAA duals.
Carolina Oliveira came through with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles against Newman's Luna Feillon. Oliveira is 3-0 at No. 4 singles.
Camilla Franzin netted a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory at No. 6 singles vs. Newman's Luciana Flores Urey. Franzin is 3-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Bearcat women will be in action again Wednesday when they travel to Tahlequah, Okla., to take on Northeastern State. The match is slated to start at 2 p.m.
