Bearcats slice their way to 5-2 dual win over RiverHawks

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The No. 49-ranked Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team captured its fourth straight dual win with a 5-2 road victory Wednesday over the Northeastern State University RiverHawks.
 
The Bearcats took their record to 10-7 overall and 5-1 in MIAA play. The RiverHawks fell to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in league dual action.
 
For the fourth time this season, the Bearcats won all three of the doubles matches in a dual. Northwest's No. 2 doubles pairing of Miru Nonaka and Alva Norberg won their fifth consecutive dual match to move to 7-1 on the season. Nonaka and Norberg are 5-1 in MIAA dual play.
 
Northwest's No. 1 singles player Marielena Muench put together a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over NSU's Tegan Heaton. The No. 61-ranked Muench improved to 11-9 overall in singles and evened her spring dual mark at 8-8.
 
Norberg, the reigning MIAA Athlete of the Week, continued her torrid play with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles over NSU's Adel Ismagulova. Norberg moved her winning streak to five in a row and improved to 15-5 overall in singles play. Norberg is 13-4 in dual play and is 5-1 in MIAA dual action.
 
Nonaka also posted a 2-0 day by scoring a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles against NSU's Lucia Bontempo. Nonaka is 11-6 on the season and 4-2 in MIAA dual play.
 
Camilla Franzin breezed past NSU's Camila De Michele Garzon at No. 6 singles by the count of 6-1, 6-0. Franzin moved above .500 in singles play at 8-7.
 
Northwest will return home to play matches in Maryville, Mo., against Emporia State (Friday) and No. 9-ranked Washburn (Saturday).
