MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team moved to 2-0 in MIAA dual action with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Fort Hays State University Tigers on the Grube Courts at the Rosewell Tennis Complex.
Northwest evened its overall record at 6-6 with the 5-2 dual win. FHSU fell to 9-3 overall and 0-1 in MIAA action.
Northwest had a battle for the doubles point and pulled it out with a tiebreak win at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles pairing of
Marielena Muench and
Camilla Franzin gained a 6-1 win, while the No. 3 duo of
Carolina Oliveira and
Anne Carvalho Pereira posted a 7-6 (7-3) victory to clinch the doubles point.
No. 46-ranked Muench gained her 10th singles win of the year with a 6-0, 6-2 win over FHSU's Shreethika Vangala.
Pereira secured a 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 win at No. 4 singles over FHSU's Yone Pereiro.
Miru Nonaka notched a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles over FHSU's Bethan Gill.
Camilla Franzin put the finishing touches on the dual with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles against FHSU's Grace Unruh.
The Bearcat women and men will be in action again Saturday at home against Nebraska-Kearney. The matches will get underway at 11 a.m.Â
