Shaw’s first half goal sinks Hillcats, 1-0

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Northwest Missouri State (7-3-0, 4-1-0) secured a 1-0 victory over Rogers State (1-5-4, 1-3-1) at Soldier Field, with the decisive goal coming in the first half.
 
The first half began with Northwest Missouri State establishing pressure early, creating multiple scoring opportunities against Rogers State. Despite several attempts by Ximena ArnauMakenna West, and Emma Cook, their shots were either saved by the Rogers State goalkeeper, Calais Butts, or went off target.
 
Lillie Shaw eventually broke through for the Bearcats, scoring in the 45th minute just before the halftime whistle. This goal provided the Bearcats a 1-0 lead as they entered the break, capitalizing on their persistent offensive efforts.
 
The second half commenced with Northwest Missouri State maintaining offensive pressure. West led an early charge with two shots, one narrowly missing and another forcing a corner kick. Abby Overbay and Rachel Smale added to the attack with shots that kept Rogers State on the defensive.
 
The defense, anchored by Lily Ellis, thwarted several shots from Rogers State, maintaining a clean sheet. Ellis's performance was pivotal as she posted her 33rd career shutout, ensuring the Bearcats' victory. The period concluded with the score unchanged, Northwest Missouri State leading 1-0.
 
Shaw scored the game-winning goal, marking her second goal of the season and of her career for the 'Cats. Oyler led the team in offensive pressure, posting three total shots with two on target. Arnau contributed with three shots, one of which was on goal, adding to the team's attacking efforts.

The Bearcats will be back in action next week for back-to-back matches in Maryville against Fort Hays State University on Friday, Oct. 17, and then will face off with the University of Nebraska Kearney on Sunday, Oct. 19, for the Professor Appreciate game.
