Northwest tennis claims two dual victories at Newman

WICHITA, Kan. - The Northwest Missouri State University tennis teams each produced conference dual wins over the Newman Jets on Saturday.

The matches were moved indoors with wind gusts nearing 50 miles per hour in the Wichita area.

The No. 17-ranked Bearcat women improved to 17-1 on the season with a 5-2 win over the Jets.

The No. 40-ranked Northwest men saw its record move to 11-5 with a 4-3 victory over Newman.

WOMEN'S RECAP
The Northwest women won their seventh straight dual and improved to 3-0 in MIAA matches.

Northwest battled to a pair of wins in doubles to take a 1-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, Carolina Oliveira and Sofia Pignataro gained a 7-6 win, while Laura Prieto Sieiro and Marielena Muench posted a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

Pignataro won her fifth straight singles match with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Newman's Ani Zeikidze at No. 2 singles. Pignataro is 14-8 on the season.

Muench topped Newman's Marie Brunet at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-0 Muench improved to 17-5 in singles play, which includes a 14-3 mark in dual action.

Prieto Sieiro notched her 17th consecutive win in singles action with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Newman's Sofiko Zeikidze. Prieto Sieiro is 17-1 in singles play this year.

Angela per Moreno posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Newman's Luna Feillon at No. 5 singles. Per Moreno is 15-4 in singles play, including a 13-1 mark in dual action.

MEN'S RECAP
The Bearcat men gained a 4-3 MIAA/GAC dual win over the Newman Jets. 

Newman took a 1-0 lead in doubles by gaining victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Northwest's No. 36-ranked team of Andrea Zamurri and Vini Rodrigues scored a 6-4 win to take their spring record to 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Zamurri improved to 12-4 at No. 1 singles and 18-5 overall this season.

Zamurri, ranked No. 40 in the nation, helped jump start the comeback with a 6-3, 6-0 straight-sets victory over No. 72-ranked Ali Mounir at No. 1 singles. 

Mason Meier posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over Newman's Isfan Makhmudov. Meier moved to 5-2 at No. 3 singles and 10-10 on the year.

Rafal Bednarczuk brought home a 6-2, 7-6 triumph at No. 4 singles over NU's Luca Penteado. Bednarczuk is 7-7 on the season.

Martin Sanchez secured a 6-4, 7-6 victory at No. 5 singles against Newman's Andrea Bramati. Sanchez is 3-0 at No. 5 singles and 8-8 on the year.
