ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The No. 18-ranked Northwest Missouri State women's tennis team completed its MIAA regular season dual slate with a 7-0 victory over Fort Hays State at the Genesis Indoor Courts.
The Bearcats improved to 21-3 overall and 6-2 in MIAA action. Fort Hays State dipped to 6-14 overall and 0-7 in league play.
Northwest won the doubles points for the 16th time this season. It was also the sixth time this year that the Bearcats won all three doubles matches in a dual. Northwest's No. 2 doubles team of
Tessa Kwakernaak and
Angela per Moreno scored a 6-2 win over FHSU's Irina Alfonso and Ines Latorre. It is the seventh straight win for the Kwakernaak/per Moreno pairing as they improved to 18-3 on the year. Northwest's No. 3 pairing of
Laura Prieto Sieiro and
Marielena Muench gained their 19th win of the year with a 6-3 victory over FHSU's Yone Pereiro and Grace Unruh.
The Bearcats did not drop a set in singles play and allowed FHSU to win only 22 games in six matches.
Angela per Moreno notched a double-bagel triumph over Ines Latorre at No. 4 singles. Per Moreno won her 10th straight singles match to improve to 21-4 on the year.
Karyan Shapshuk captured her first dual singles win of the year at No. 6. Shapshuk gained a 6-3, 6-4 win over FHSU's Grace Unruh.
Northwest's 21 dual wins ranks as the fourth-most ever in a season in program history.
