MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 45-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team scored a 6-1 win over the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers, while the No. 18-ranked Bearcat women came up short against the No. 17-ranked Loper women, 5-2.
The Bearcat men improved to 13-6 overall and 3-1 in MIAA/GAC dual action. UNK fell to 13-9 overall and 2-1 in MIAA/GAC matches.
The UNK women moved to 7-4 overall and 6-1 in MIAA duals. The Bearcat women dropped to 20-3 overall and 5-2 in MIAA play.
MEN'S RECAP
The Northwest men won all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches to earn a 6-1 triumph over the Lopers.
In doubles play,
Michael Delebois and
Fillippo Piranomonte pulled off a 6-1 win over No. 11-ranked Tom van den Dungen and Aaron Osmond at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles of
Andrea Zamurri and
Vini Rodrigues took down UNK's Ahmed Abdelazis and Jip Mens. The duo of Zamurri and Rodrigues are ranked No. 35 in the nation and improved to 9-1 this spring in dual action. The No. 3 doubles pairing of
Martin Sanchez and
Mason Meier blitzed the UNK duo of Andy Brisdon and Jakub Strzelecki, 6-3. Sanchez and Meier moved to 14-4 this spring at No. 3 doubles.
Zamurri, ranked No. 21 in singles play, cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mens at No. 1 singles. Delebois turned in a 7-5, 6-2 win over Osmond at No. 2 singles. Meier notched a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory over Dungen at No. 3 singles.
Rafal Bednarczuk worked over UNK's Strzelecki at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Sanchez worked a little overtime at No. 6 singles as he prevailed 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (11-9) over UNK's Brisdon.
WOMEN'S RECAP
The UNK women served up Northwest's third dual loss of the season and second in MIAA play with a 5-2 win.
The Bearcats took it to the Lopers in doubles play by securing all three victories. Northwest's No. 1 pairing of
Carolina Oliveira and
Sofia Pignataro put up a 6-4 win over No. 39-ranked Melisa Becerra and Narindra Ranaivo.
However, Northwest's 1-0 dual lead would evaporate quickly in singles play. The Lopers won five straight matches to clinch the dual. Only Northwest's
Angela per Moreno gained a win in the singles ledger with a 6-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-4) win at No. 6 singles over Masha Hatouka.
