Gahan provides offense; Bearcat pitching shines in sweep of Lions

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University junior shortstop Annie Gahan knocked in all five runs in leading the Bearcat softball team to a pair of MIAA wins over the Missouri Southern Lions.

Northwest won game one on the strength of a three-run homer in the second inning by Gahan, 3-0. The Bearcats tallied a 2-1 win in game two that featured a two-run single from Gahan in the second inning.

Northwest is 23-23 overall and 12-10 in MIAA play. Missouri Southern drops to 30-19 overall and 10-12 in MIAA action.

GAME ONE
The Bearcats took game one behind the three-run homer from Gahan and a complete game from starting pitcher Jadyn Streigle, 3-0.

Gahan provided the offensive punch with a two-out, three-run homer in the second. It was Gahan's third home run of the season.

Streigle pitched her 10th complete game of the season in improving to 9-9. Streigle tossed six shutout innings before Lions rallied for a run in the seventh. She allowed five hits and struck out one MSSU batter.

GAME TWO
Gahan came through again in game two with both RBI and the pitching duo of Hayden Simmons and Breck Dickey stymied the MSSU hitters.

Gahan delivered a two-out, two-run single in the second inning for all of Northwest's offense again.

Simmons got the win in the circle by pitching into the fifth inning. Simmons gave up three hits and one run (unearned) as she struck out three MSSU batters.

Dickey relieved Simmons in the fifth and struck out the side as she left the tying run stranded at third. Dickey retired all nine batters she faced and picked up her second save of the season.

Northwest will be at home on Wednesday for a doubleheader against William Jewell before heading to Lincoln and Central Missouri to wrap up MIAA regular season play.
