LIBERTY, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team dropped its midweek matchup with the William Jewell Cardinals, 9-7.Â
Northwest saw its record fall to 15-19 overall, as William Jewell improved to 16-11.
The game featured eight home runs between the two teams, split four and four.
Ryan Williams (2),
Trey Morris, and
Kaehukai Young were all credited with round-trippers for Northwest. William Jewell (14) and Northwest (13) also combined for 27 hits in tonight's game.Â
William Jewell started the home half with a lead-off solo shot to center to take a quick 1-0 lead.Â
Hot at the plate, Williams tied the game up at one after he crushed a solo homer to right in the third. William Jewell had a two-run response in the bottom half. The Cardinals led 3-1 after three innings.Â
Young joined in on the slugfest as he notched his fourth dinger of the season, cutting the Bearcat deficit to just one, 3-2.Â
Fuga Yambe made just his third appearance of the season, relieving Fisher. Yambe gave up a run in the fourth to make it a 4-2 ballgame.Â
Williams continued his dominance as he homered for the second time in the game, this time a two-run shot to right-center to knot the game up at four.Â
Garrett Stoll came in to pitch for Yambe in the fifth. William Jewell scratched across three runs on five hits to take a 7-4 advantage.Â
The Cardinals homered to lead off the sixth to take an 8-4 lead.Â
Williams scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-5 in the seventh. Young knocked in Wornson with an RBI single to cut it to 8-6. The Cardinals managed to scratch one across in the ninth to make it a three-run ball game in the home half. Â
Morris led off the ninth with a deep shot to right-center, but wasn't enough to make the comeback as William Jewell took its midweek game with Northwest, 9-7.Â
Fisher (2-1) took the loss, working three innings, allowing five hits and one strikeout.Â
Northwest will begin its three-game set with Fort Hays State on Friday, April 5. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
