ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - William Woods University scored a 4-3 dual win over the Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team on Thursday.
The match was moved to the Genesis Indoor Courts in St. Joseph because of high winds.
William Woods is ranked No. 7 in the latest NAIA ITA poll. WWU is 15-4 on the season. Northwest, ranked No. 35 in the latest NCAA Div. II rankings, falls to 11-6 overall.
The Bearcat No. 1 doubles pairing of
Fillippo Piranomonte and
Andrea Zamurri collected a 6-2 win over WWU's Vaclav Schneider and Vitek Subert. However, WWU won both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 1-0 lead.
Zamurri scored a three-set win over Schneider at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8).
Mason Meier recorded a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2) triumph at No. 2 singles over WWU's Zinovii Nahirniak.
Rafal Bednarczuk notched a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles against WWU's Stephan Mach.
