SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The No. 17-ranked Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team remained unbeaten with a 6-1 win over McKendree, while the No. 17-ranked Bearcat men suffered a 5-2Â setback to McKendree.
The Bearcat women are 6-0 in dual action this spring. The Bearcat men are 4-2 overall.
WOMEN'S RECAP
McKendree gained an early advantage by winning the doubles point. Northwest's No. 2 doubles team of
Tessa Kwakernaak and
Angela per Moreno scored a 6-3 win, but Northwest could not overcome the losses at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Northwest regrouped and simply dominated the action in singles play. Northwest won four of the matches in straight sets.
Carolina Oliveira was pushed to a third set at No. 1 singles but prevailed in a 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 win.
Marielena Muench was also extended to a third set, but she was victorious by a count of 1-6, 6-1, 7-6.
MEN'S RECAP
McKendree's men also picked up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Northwest's No. 3 doubles team of
Mason Meier and
Martin Sanchez tallied a 6-2 victory.
Vini Rodrigues notched a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles, while
Martin Sanchez tallied a third-set win at No. 4 singles to account for Northwest's two singles' victories.
