Bearcat softball sweeps Bemidji State Sunday afternoon in Maryville

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State softball swept both games in Sunday's double header vs. the Bemidji State Beavers at Bearcat Softball Field. Northwest won game one 4-2 while game two ended with a 6-0 decision in favor of the Bearcats.

GAME ONE:
Northwest jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning following a double by Skylar Pieper and an RBI single to left field from Avery Mayberry.
 
Lela Bryant extended the Bearcat lead in the bottom of the second when she lifted a two-run home run just inside the left field foul pole scoring Lauren Gray.
 
Bemidji State got one back in the top of the fourth on an error.
 
Abby Nolte extended the Northwest lead in the sixth inning to 4-1 driving in Cora Schweitzer on an RBI single to right field.
 
The Beavers got another run in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats pulled out a 4-2 win.
 
Hayden Simmons earned her fourth win on the mound this season going five innings while surrendering only one run.
 
GAME TWO:
It was a scoreless game until the bottom of the third inning when the Bearcats put of a crooked number scoring five runs in the inning.
 
Avery Mayberry got things started with an RBI single to right field that scored Alexis Brown.
 
Then Gaige Pinkerton was hit by a pitch to drive in the second run of the inning, Abby Nolte followed with a sac-fly to left field to drive in another Bearcat run. Lillie Filger kept the rally going with an RBI single of her own extending the lead to 4-0. Another RBI walk for the Cats' moved the lead to 5-0.
 
Filger tallied her third hit and second RBI of the day on a double to left field scoring Lauren Gray.
 
Jayden Streigle was excellent in the circle for the Bearcats, Streigle went all seven innings giving up zero runs and only four hits.
 
Northwest will travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Augustana Vikings.
