MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team snapped out a seven-game skid with a 15-5 thumping of the Missouri Western Griffons in game one of a three-game series.
The Bearcats improved to 9-14 overall and 2-9 in MIAA play. The Griffons fell to 12-11 overall and 4-7 in league action.
Northwest rallied from a 5-1 deficit to score 14 unanswered runs and notch a walk-off triumph in the eighth inning for a 10-run win.
Quinn Mason picked up the win as he worked six innings and gave up six hits along with five runs (one earned). Mason struck out nine and walked one.
Jake Ciafullo pitched two one-hit innings in relief to finish off the Griffons.
Trey Morris and
Cole Slibowski delivered a pair of three-hit contests and
Alex Bowers came off the bench to knock in three runs to power the Bearcat offense. Morris also knocked in three runs and scored a trio of runs.
Northwest pounded out a season-high 16 hits as five different Bearcats had multi-hit games. Northwest reached double figures in hits for the 11th time this season. The Bearcats reached double-figure runs for the 10th time this year.
The Bearcats and Griffons will meet for game two Saturday at 2 p.m.
