ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team opened up with a 5-1 dual win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis at the Genesis Indoor Courts.
The Bearcats gained the upper-hand early in doubles by scoring victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 1-0 lead. The No. 2 doubles team of 
Tessa Kwakernaak and 
Angela per Moreno took a 6-4 decision over its UMSL competition. The No. 3 pairing of 
Marielena Muench and 
Laura Prieto Sieiro posted a 6-1 victory.
Northwest dropped the No. 1 singles match when UMSL's Anna Domingo topped de Oliveira in a third-set super tiebreaker, 10-7. But the Bearcats then scored four straight wins in singles to clinch the dual victory. Kwakernaak, Muench and Prieto Sieiro won in straight sets. 
Sofia Pignataro celebrated her birthday with a three-set win over UMSL's Hannah Tse, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10).
