Nolte's 7 RBI-effort spurs Bearcats past Reddies, 11-3

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Northwest Missouri State University softball team completed its first weekend of action above .500 with a 11-3 five-inning victory over Henderson State University Sunday at Dee White Field.

Northwest is 3-2 on the season.

Senior Abby Nolte tied a school record with seven RBI in the contest, which included a grand slam in the third inning. The seven RBIs in a game matches the total of Abigail Gilson vs. Central Missouri (April 27, 2017) and Annie Melius vs. Washburn (April 28, 1987). On Sunday, Nolte went 3-for-4 with three runs scored along with her seven RBI.

Northwest took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on three hits, but left the bases loaded. Alexis Brown reached out a one-out double to left center. Nolte drove in Brown with a single to center for the first run of the game. Skylar Pieper was hit by a pitch and Omara Love singled to center to load the bases. Sara Farlow drew a bases loaded walk to score Nolte and give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead. Sophie Mayhugh grounded out to third to end the first-inning scoring.

The Bearcats added four more runs in the second inning courtesy of three hits. Lela Bryant, Lillie Filger and Brown loaded the bases to lead off the inning. After a pop out to second by Lauren Gray, Nolte delivered a two-run single to center to score Bryant and Filger. Pieper followed with a two-run double to center that staked the Bearcats to a 6-0 lead.

The Reddies tallied two runs in the bottom of the second to draw within 6-2 on an RBI groundout and RBi double to left center.

For the third consecutive inning, the Bearcats loaded the bases and did damage on the scoreboard. Mayhugh led off the third with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Bryant. Filger laced a single to left to move Mayhugh to third. Filger stole second to put both runners in scoring position. Brown reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Gray ripped an RBI single to left to plate Mayhugh and make it 7-2. Following an HSU pitching change, Nolte greeted the new hurler with a grand slam to left center to blow it open at 11-2.

Henderson State scored an unearned run in the fourth of starting pitcher Olivia Moyer to trim the Bearcat lead to 11-3.

Moyer picked up her first collegiate win as she threw a complete game. Moyer allowed seven hits and three runs (one earned), while she stuck out three and walked three.
