WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Northwest Missouri State University softball team wrapped up play in the Mustang Round Up with a 4-1 win over Midwestern State University.
Northwest moves it overall season mark to 5-4, while Midwestern State drops to 2-7.
The Bearcats bounced out to 2-0 lead after a half inning.
Lauren Gray slapped an RBI double to center to score
Lillie Filger for the first run.
Gaige Pinkerton reached on an error that allowed Gray to complete her circuit around the bases and give Northwest a 2-0 advantage.
Midwestern State cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the first with an RBI single to left.
The Bearcats got that run back in the top of the second when
Alexis Brown drove a single to center to plate
Lela Bryant.
Northwest wrapped up the scoring in the fifth on an RBI single from
Sophie Mayhugh that scored
Skylar Pieper.

Hayden Simmons as the starting pitcher and she came through with her first win of the season. Simmons went four innings. She allowed three hits and one run to go along with two strikeouts.
Breck Dickey came on in the fifth and worked a three-inning save. Dickey gave up two hits and struck out a pair.
Bryant went 3-for-3 with a run scored batting in the nine hole. Gray went 2-for-4 and Mayhugh also tallied a two-hit game.
Sunday's action has been cancelled because of expected inclement weather.
