Fields scores 17, Bearcats defeat Hawks 66-51 at Municipal Auditorium

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team claimed a decisive 66-51 win over the Rockhurst Hawks at Municipal Auditorium. Kelsey Fields led the Bearcats with 17 points and grabbed six rebounds, moving up to No. 5 on Northwest's all-time career rebounds list. 
 
Northwest (4-1) limited Rockhurst (0-2) to just 26.8% shooting (15-of-56) from the field and allowed only one three-pointer (1-of-9). The Bearcats connected on 44.6% of their shots (25-of-56) and shot 36.4% from beyond the arc (8-of-22).
 
Kelsey Fields opened the scoring with a hook shot at 8:50 mark. Rockhurst briefly took the lead, 4-2, after a fastbreak with seven minutes left. Shortly after, Brooklyn Stanley assisted Sadie Maas on a pick-and-roll to tie it at four, followed by Maas's and-one and a Caely Kesten three-pointer to close out the first quarter with Northwest leading, 12-6.
 
Stanley kicked off the second quarter with a three-pointer from the right wing. The Bearcats extended their lead with a 17-4 run before the Hawks scored on a pair of free throws at 1:46, leaving Northwest up 25-10. At halftime, Northwest maintained control with a 27-14 lead, bolstered by Fields's eight points, and five from Stanley and Maas, respectively.. Rockhurst shot just 17% (5-of-28) in the first half, turning the ball over seven times.
 
Northwest started the second half strong, going on a 6-2 run to lead 33-16. Although Rockhurst fought back with an 8-0 run, Northwest remained in control, 35-20. Lindsey Kelderman's second three-pointer (four total) of the day at the end of the third quarter gave the Bearcats a 44-30 edge.
 
In the final quarter, the Bearcats pushed their lead with a 12-2 run, leading 56-38 at the final media timeout. Northwest maintained momentum to finish with a commanding 66-51 victory over Rockhurst.
