MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University women's soccer team set a school record with 18 corner kicks en route to a 4-0 shutout win over the University of Sioux Falls Cougars at the Bearcat Pitch.
Northwest (2-1-1 overall) came out very aggressive in today's match against Sioux Falls (0-3 overall), winning the shots on goal margin 21-6 and a 33-7 overall shot advantage. Northwest also set a new school record with corner kicks with 18, with the previous mark set at 15.
Northwest wasted little time in getting the action started by scoring 44 seconds into the match.
Lucia Fernandez found the back of the net with the assists credited with
Adell Gore and
Makenna West.
At the 27:47 mark of the first half, sophomore midfielder
Siri Ott gained her first goal of the year to give the Bearcats a 2-0 advantage. Gore notched her second assist of the match.
Gore got into scoring mode with a goal less than two minutes into the second half. Gore's goal came on passes from
Grace Wineinger and
Kaylie Rock.
Maddie Taylor was credited with the final goal of the match to give the Bearcats a commanding 4-0 lead.
Next on the schedule, Northwest will play host Missouri Western on Friday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m.
