TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The No. 19-ranked Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team claimed its ninth straight win with a 5-2 victory over No. 43-ranked Northeastern State University.
Northwest cruised to the doubles point by scoring 6-2 victories in all three matches.
However, the singles action would not be as easy. Northwest had to go three sets to capture wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles. Northwest's
Tessa Kwakernaak was the only Bearcat to win in straight sets as she posted a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 singles. Kwakernaak picked up her fourth straight win to move to 8-6 on the year.
At No. 1 singles, No. 36-ranked
Vera Alenicheva picked up a big win over No. 16-ranked Emilia Cosatto, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Alenicheva has won four straight matches and is 13-5 on the season.
No. 39-ranked
Tyffaine Pais tallied a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory over NSU's Alisha Moldakhmetova at No. 2 singles. Pais is 12-2 at No. 2 singles this spring.
Carolina Caetano Reis netted a 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6) win over NSU's Roos Karremans at No. 4 singles. Caetano Reis extended her singles win streak to three in a row.
The Bearcats moved to 15-3 overall and 6-0 in MIAA play. Northwest is 12-1 since the start of March.
Northwest will match up against No. 30-ranked Central Oklahoma Saturday in Edmond, Okla.
