Bearcats are Orlando-bound following 4-1 win over SE Oklahoma State

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The No. 12-ranked Northwest Missouri State University men's tennis team punched its ticket to Orlando, Fla., with a 4-1 dual win over Southeastern Oklahoma State University in the NCAA Central Region Tournament.

The Bearcats moved to 15-6 on the season with the triumph. The Savage Storm dropped to 11-10 to complete their season.

Northwest won the doubles point in dramatic fashion. The Savage Storm tallied a win at No. 3 doubles before Northwest evened the doubles up with a win at No. 2 doubles. Northwest's No. 2 doubles team of Fabien Calloud and Jan Skerbatis knocked off No. 29-ranked Juan Gonzalez and Marin Jurkovic, 6-4. Calloud and Skerbatis improved to 8-1 as a doubles team this spring.

The doubles point came down to a back-and-forth affair at No. 1 doubles that went to an extended tiebreaker. Northwest's No. 1 pairing of Fillippo Piranomonte and Andrea Zamurri triumphed with a crucial 9-7 win in the tiebreaker over Southeastern Oklahoma's Stipan Madzar and Gen Naraya to give Northwest a 1-0 lead in the dual.

The Bearcats went to work in singles as the bottom of the order did the heavy lifting.

At No. 4 singles, Skerbatis posted a 7-6, 6-1 win over Jurkovic.

At No. 5 singles, Mason Meier prevailed over Naraya, 6-0, 6-3. Meier continued his torrid play with his sixth straight singles victory.

The Savage Storm earned their only point in the dual with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles by Gonzalez over Northwest's Michael Delebois.

The Bearcats clinched the dual win at No. 6 singles when Simon Birgerson took down the Savage Storm's Diego Orduz, 6-4, 6-3.

The NCAA Tournament will continue in Orlando, Fla., on May 11-16.
