Bearcats blow past Cardinals, 13-6

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team tallied a 13-6 non-conference home win Tuesday afternoon over the William Jewell Cardinals.

The Bearcats used seven extra-base hits, including three home runs to exact some revenge from last week's 13-1 loss against the Cardinals in Liberty, Mo.

Other than a six-run fourth inning, the Bearcat pitching staff put up eight scoreless innings. Alex Slocum pitched the opening two innings and allowed one hit and no runs. Alexander Lovin got the win in relief as he worked 2 1/3 innings, including getting the final out of the fourth inning. Lovin retired seven of the last nine batters he faced. Casey Stalzer worked two hitless innings in the seventh and eighth. Closer Jacob Gajic struck out the side in the ninth on just 11 pitches.

Alex Bowers drew three walks and was hit by a pitch as he recorded four runs out of the two spot in the order.

Ryan Koski belted his team-leading 12th home run of the season in the sixth. Koski went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three RBI.

Layne Shiers hit his seventh homer of the year, a two-run shot in the fourth to cap a four-run inning. Shiers went 2-for-5 at the plate.

Brady Miles cracked his third home run of the season in the sixth to put the finishing touches on the Bearcat scoring for the day.

Trey Morris went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI.

Parker Griffith also had a two-hit day in five at-bats.

Northwest will be back in action Friday to begin a three-game MIAA series with Rogers State.
