Rogers State scores 10-3 win over Northwest

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team saw its MIAA tournament hopes dashed on Friday as the Rogers State University Hillcats scored a 10-3 win.

Bearcat starting pitcher Alex Slocum was touched up for eight and four runs in 2 1/3 innings of work.

Rogers State plated a single run in the second before adding a trio of runs in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

Northwest's Ryan Koski put the Bearcats on the board with a two-out RBI single to right field to score Jacob Selock. Selock singled and moved up to second on an infield groundout by Alex Bowers.

The Hillcats increased the lead back to four runs by taking advantage of a leadoff walk issued by Bearcat reliever Alexander Lovin.

Rogers State tacked on three runs in the sixth to take an 8-2 lead.

Northwest loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth, but could only turn it into two runs on an RBI groundout by Max Pawela and a sacrifice fly from Selock.

The Hillcats upped their lead to 10-3 with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth to wrap up the game's scoring.

Northwest and Rogers State will meet for game two on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Bearcats will honor their senior class prior to the first pitch.
