JOPLIN, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State softball team split a doubleheader with Missouri S&T at the Missouri Southern Lion Classic. The Bearcats won game one, 6-5, and dropped game two, 4-0.
Northwest moves to 12-6 overall.
GAME ONE
Olivia Daugherty nailed a two-run home run over the left center wall to give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first.

Missouri S&T tallied one run in the bottom of the inning as the runner from third reached home on an error. The Miners posted two more runs in the second with a two-run home run to take their first lead of the game at 3-2.

Missouri S&T continued to increase its lead, this time with a sacrifice bunt that scored one run in the third inning. In the fourth, the Miners hit a double which brought another runner home and gave them the 5-2 lead.

Daugherty brought Northwest back within one run in the fifth inning as she hit a single up the middle that scored
Avery Anderson and
Lillie Filger.

With the Bearcats down 5-4 in the top of the seventh,
Omara Love reached on a fielding error which also allowed
Brylee Kemper to come home from third and tie it up at 5-5. Two batters later,
Lauren Gray hit an RBI single to left field, scoring
Cora Schweitzer and giving Northwest its first lead since the first inning.

The Miners went three up, three down to give the 'Cats a 6-5 victory.

Hayden Simmons got the win and improved her overall record to 4-0.

GAME TWO
Missouri S&T was first to score in game two of the double header as they managed to score one run in the top of the third inning.

The Niners scored one run in the sixth with a single down the left field line that brought in one run, and tacked on two more runs in the seventh.
Â
Missouri S&T got the win in game two by a score of 4-0.
Â
Jadyn Streigle pitched all seven innings allowing 10 hits while recording one strikeout.
Â
Madison Friest was the only Bearcat to tally more than one hit as she had two.
Skylar Pieper,
Sara Farlow, and
Lela Bryant all had one hit.
