HAYS, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State softball team split the teams first MIAA doubleheader of the season with Fort Hays State. Northwest lost game one, 2-1, but won game two, 4-0.

The Bearcats move to 13-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

GAME ONE
Both teams had a slow first game hitting. It wasn't until the fifth inning when Hays put up the first two runs of the matchup. The Tigers scored their first run on a triple that brought home one player, and then in the next at bat a single brought in the second run of the inning to give Fort Hays a 2-0 lead.

Northwest finally got on the board in the seventh inning with an
Olivia Daugherty double to left center that scored
Brylee Kemper from second. With two outs, the Bearcats had
Alexis Brown advance to third on a passed ball, but the team couldn't bring her home to tie it up.

The 'Cats dropped game one of the doubleheader, 2-1.

Breck Dickey pitched 6.0 innings recording eight strikeouts and giving up just four hits.

Northwest had four hits in game one, each coming from a different Bearcat.
Aubrey Griffith,
Olivia Daugherty,
Omara Love and
Avery Anderson all had a hit in the matchup.

GAME TWO
The Bearcats were the first to score in game two as
Lillie Filger singled to left center which scored
Skylar Pieper from third in the top of the third inning. Two batters later,
Olivia Daugherty hit a double down the right field line and that brought both
Madison Friest and Filger home to give Northwest a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.

In the top of the sixth,
Omara Love doubled to bring home
Brylee Kemper and increase the Northwest lead to 4-0.

Hays couldn't manage to get any runs across the plate in the contest so the 'Cats came away with the game two win, 4-0.
Â
Jadyn Streigle went 7.0 innings giving up just three hits and tallying one strikeout.
Lillie Filger went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored.
Olivia Daugherty went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Omara Love,
Avery Anderson, and
Madison Friest all had one hit in the win.

Northwest is back in action tomorrow at Nebraska-Kearney for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
