ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The No. 14-ranked Northwest Missouri State University women's tennis team extended its win streak to six in a row with a 4-1 victory over the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders at the Genesis Indoor Courts.
The Bearcats moved their season record to 12-3 overall. The Bearcat women's tennis team has won nine of its last 10 dual matches this spring.
For the 12th time this season, Northwest began the dual by capturing the doubles point. Northwest gained doubles wins from
Tessa Kwakernaak and
Vera Alenicheva at No. 2 and from
Tyffaine Pais and Angela Per Moreno at No. 3. The Kwakernaak/Alenicheva pairing improved to 10-2 at No. 2 doubles this spring. Pais and Per Moreno gained their 11th doubles victory against only two losses this spring.
No. 48-ranked Alenicheva secured a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 70-ranked Sarah Roy at No. 1 singles.
Carolina Caetano Reis notched a straight-sets win over SAU's Greta Wallin at No. 4 singles by the count of 7-6, 6-4. Kwakernaak earned the clinching victory at No. 3 singles with a three-set victory over SAU's Annika Berrendorf, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Northwest will play host to the Newman University Jets Saturday at 1 p.m. on the Grube Courts at the Rosewell Tennis Complex on the Bearcat campus.
