Bearcats split doubleheader with Emporia State

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State softball team split a home doubleheader matchup with Emporia State as the Hornets took game one, and Northwest took game two in five innings.
 
The Bearcats moved to 19-15 overall, 4-6 in the MIAA.
 
ESU moved to 19-13 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
 
GAME ONE
Emporia State posted one run in the top of the first to get out to an early 1-0 lead.
 
The lead wouldn't last long as the Bearcats tied it up in the bottom of the first with an Abby Nolte double to right that brought Lillie Filger home.
 
Northwest took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the third when Omara Love singled which allowed Avery Anderson to score and bring the score to 2-1.
 
Both teams were scoreless until the sixth when the Hornets tallied four runs and took a 5-2 lead.
 
Emporia State held onto the lead and finished game one with the 5-2 victory.
 
A total of seven Bearcats had a hit in the contest, and four different players recorded two hits.
 
Jadyn Streigle went for six innings allowing seven hits and five runs along with six strikeouts.
 
GAME TWO
Northwest posted an impressive game two score of 11-1 in five innings.
 
The Bearcats got it rolling in the first scoring four runs. Lillie Filger and Olivia Daugherty scored the first two runs off a Lauren Gray single. Abby Nolte scored the second run on an error, and Gray scored on a sacrifice fly by Madison Friest.
 
Northwest struck again in the third inning as Filger and Skylar Pieper crossed the plate off a single to right field by Daugherty. Heading into the fourth, the Bearcats led 6-0.
 
Emporia State managed to tack on one run in the fourth to bring the score to 6-1 in favor of the 'Cats.
 
Northwest scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth, all of which were scored with two outs. Pieper scored the first run of the inning off a Lela Bryant single to left field. Filger then brought home two runs with a single that scored pinch runners Alexis Brown and Brylee Kemper bringing the score to 9-1. Filger went on to score a run from an Avery Anderson single to second, and two batters later Anderson scored the 11th run of the day for the 'Cats off an error.
 
The Hornets couldn't scratch any more runs across the plate giving Northwest an 11-1 victory in five innings in game two.
 
Olivia Daugherty led the way as she went 3-for-3 in the second game with two RBIs and one run. Lillie Filger and Avery Anderson both had two hits in the game.
 
Breck Dickey got the win going 4.0 innings with three strikeouts and allowing just one run on seven hits.
